Todd Gerber

In 1992, Todd Gerber helped establish the Casio SK-1 keyboard as a valid musical instrument in his band UMLAUT with Troy Sharp, long before the instrument achieved cult-cool status. Soon after, he co-founded the bands drrdrr and Dinah Shore, Jr., and with the latter he performed on bills with Robert Fripp, Adrian Belew, Trey Gunn, The Amazing Delores, and Trans Am.
Todd has been at the heart of the Nashville experimental and electronic music scenes since the late 1980s.

Todd Campbell

Todd received his training in classical percussion at West Virginia University, studying with Phil Faini and Dave Satterfield. While at WVU in the mid 90’s, Todd took lessons in electronic music and FM synthesis with Gil Trythall – lessons and experiences that still inform his music today. In 2008, Todd embarked on a quest to release ten solo album-length recordings in ten years. Six years and six releases later, Todd is finding an innovative and critically-acclaimed compositional voice utilizing electro-acoustic percussion, guitar, and hardware synths and effects, combined with many years spent as a touring rock drummer. Todd’s solo performances invite you to experience a predictably unpredictable foray into a sonic bricolage, incorporating masterful drumming and avant-whacked synth wizardry that holds a curious treat somewhere in the depths. Currently, Todd is assistant professor of music at Bloomsburg University, and is completing his dissertation.

John Collinge of Progression Magazine rated Campbell’s 2010 release “Translation” 12 out of 12 stars, observing that Todd’s “prolific and complex contributions on drums, cymbals and percussion lend depth and resonance to his incredible array of electronic applications,” creating “uncharted forays into sonic alchemy that probably surprised their creator as much as the listener.” John Patrick reviewed Todd’s 2011 release “Pathology,” noting that he “sounds like Sandy Nelson, Mitch Mitchell, and Art Blakey touring Sandoz laboratory, imbibing the product, then being turned loose in a studio full of synthesizers, plus acoustic and triggered percussion!”

Surrealestate

Surrealestate is a musical experience that utilizes visual and sonic textures reminiscent of the Old Berlin style of electronic synth music. Surrealestate was formed five years ago with original members Kelly Sheets, Bunny Sheets, and Randy Schwartz. After Randy’s departure, long time friend and associate Jim Curry has contributed his musical creativity to Surrealestate. Surrealestate evolved from Kelly and Bunny’s collective band experiences which included Gravity Hill and Interstellar Electric Gnomes. Jim Curry has been involved in multiple genres and played with bands with tastes ranging from Grateful Dead, Psychodellia, Blues, and Bluegrass. Former band member, Randy Schwartz, contributed his experiences from Tombstone Valentine and added his own unique style through synths, delays, and violin.
Currently Surrealestate enjoys playing Old School Berlin using restored Moog vintage synths and other vintage equipment collected over the years. When required, styles include upbeat techno, psychill, ambient, and trance. Lighting and stage props are occasionally utilized to add to the experience.
For Meme 2014, Surrealestate is planning an all analog show of new and old material.

remst8

remst8 is an experimental computer musician who explores sounds in whatever spare time he can steal. This on-again/off-again affair began in the early ’90s, using tracker programs on his Amiga 500 and later a PC to create soundtracks for his friends’ creations (computer games and an independent film).  Following a 7 year hiatus to focus on his software engineering career, remst8 returned to tracking music for fun and creative exploration.
Rather than aiming for a particular genre, remst8 prefers to follow the sounds where they take him, informed and inspired by the eclectic styles of music he listens to.  Recently, remst8’s explorations have focused on deep drone and dark ambient tracks with a smattering of noise and experimentation.

This musical journey started 20 years ago with the formation of his group Ma Ja Le with ambient guitarist Christopher Short and has continued through his solo work and collaborations with artists such as Tony Gerber, Oophoi, Vir Unis, MindSpiral and more. His discography includes over a dozen critically acclaimed albums including 1998’s number 2  NAV charting album “Imaginarium”, the Hypnos fan favorite “Silence Speaks In Shadow” to his most recent ambient-jazz album, “The Moss Garden Sessions” with Greg Hurley and Brian Good. Additionally Paul has had a 12+ year career as a sound designer for Sony Creative Software, is also a noted recording engineer, producer and session percussionist and also serves as the Technical Consultant and a principal reviewer for Recording Magazine.
As of late Paul’s solo performances have been a return to vintage tribal space music. His rig typically includes analog synths, Korg Wavedrums old and new and an 8 channel live looping device. When a computer is employed it is used mainly as a mixer and a reverb machine. Half prepared motifs and half improvisation Paul spins sounds into live looped sound paintings of the moment.
